Chairs of the Department of Computer Science are active in Medical Engineering and Informatics, Medical Imaging, Image and Signal Processing and Visualization. It is integrated in interdisciplinary Collaborative Research Centers, Research Cooperations and Graduate Schools. Together with the Medical School the Department organizes lectures on Medical Informatics and develops Health Care Information Systems. Furthermore, the Department cooperates with local medical engineering and sports industry. Medical Information Technology is part of the more general research area "Life Sciences" at the School of Engineering.
